a unique service, focusing on Acts 20:17ff and some things that are happening in our church over the next few months.
My church is not my church.
The church belongs to Christ. He paid for her with His blood. v. 28
I don't expect my church to be an easy, casual, comfortable or convenient experience. The stakes are too high.
Tears, trials, night and day, bonds and afflictions are more like it. vs. 19, 23
My church requires leaders with godly convictions who are humble, courageous, and sacrificial.
Serving the Lord, not knowing what will happen to me, the Holy Spirit has made you overseers...be on guard... vs. 19, 22, 28, 31
My church takes the Bible and its message seriously.
I did not shrink from declaring to you...teaching you...solemnly testifying...preaching...I commend you to the word of His grace...
vs. 20,21,25,32
My church is an entitlement free zone.
I have coveted no man's silver or gold or clothes...It is more blessed to give than to receive. vs. 33-35

Jesus' return will change everything. What we now see with the eyes of faith, we shall see in person. What scripture prophesied for three millenia will become a reality. God has placed that day on His calendar and it is comming.... sooon.

We are so blessed to live in an area of breathtaking vantage points, scenic views of peaks and valleys that can give one the perspective of the majestic topography of our region. Entering a new year with the vantage point of Psalm 139 will empower us to see the peaks and valleys that will come our way as opportunities for us to experience that God is for us. God never stops pursuing us and He truly knows us. These two realities can take us beyond the false belief that God is only for us when He cooperates with our agendas. God is pursuing us with a true knowledge of who we are so that He can rescue us from our short-sighted personal agendas and lead us in life giving ways.

You probably didn't realize just how helpless you were to free yourself from your own failures (sins!). It truly is like being a slave. You also were not aware and will never fully know of how much it cost to buy your freedom. To top it off, how could it be that you are now a full child of God, with 24/7/360 access to the father without comeptition? And believe it or not, it's all a gift.

If we ever wonder whether or not God knows what He is doing, all we need to do is to explore the depth of the “Christ” event. His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law. It was ALL His idea, His plan! Not pretty, but perfect. As we approach Christmas, how appropriate to seek a deeper understanding this year of the nature and character of Christ– the perfect One, and to solidify our response to Him.

“The fullness of time.” Sounds like when apregnant woman goes “full term.” Manythings require “perfect timing.” Problem is, there are so few things that we can actually control. Yet God can and does. The Christmas story is proof positive. And...He is working in our lives according to His perfect timing as well.
For what do you commonly thank God for? Do you give thanks for material blessings, recovery from illnesses, getting a raise, a new job? All of these are good thinkgs to thank God for but, by and large, most of our thanksgiving centers on material things and personal comfort. Paul's prayers are full of thanksgiving not for material prosperity and physical well-being, but for signs of God's grace among Christians. Paul's prayer of giving thanks much more proportinately for the ways God is growing us through our relationship with Him and with others.

The possibility and likelihood of “grieving” or “quenching” the Holy Spirit certainly exposes us to just how ongoing, vital and personal His presence and
purpose is in our lives! So up close and personal! Who would have thought it? This is the final message on The Third Person. Let’s not grieve or quench the Spirit this week by not giving time and attention to what we have learned and how we will respond.

It is amazing, really. The name of Jesus dominates the world. His one solitary life has affected life on this planet more than any other– by far! But He was an obscure, poor son of a carpenter! How has this “man” gone viral for so long? There is only one answer. The Third Person, the Spot Light.

Going through struggles in life is certainly difficult and not something that most people look forward to. However, it is comforting to know that when we are in such despair and don’t even know how to begin praying the Holy Spirit knows exactly what to say...GROAN...on our behalf. And in His groanings, He is interceding for us in accordance with God’s will and to make us more like Christ.

One thing is for sure. The Holy Spirit is intimately involved in enabling and equipping us to have a marked influence on the body of Christ so that Christ can touch the world. We are the body of Christ!
No one is insignificant, no one is independent. God has determined that only by each of us giving ourselves to that which will build up one another will the church be all that He desires her to be.

Part 3 of 3. The emphasis in our series on the Change Agent may be over, but the process of change and transformation never ends. It is, as the apostle taught, “a walk.”The prospect of learning and living in the dynamic of APTAT is both freeing and realistic. The Third Person does what we can’t do for ourselves, AND we are responsible to trust Him and act consistently with His direction. The resulting growth may not be that obvious to us, but His fruit will be felt and experienced by those around us as we take the journey together.

APTAT. Admit we can’t. Pray and Trust. Now what? What is our part? Surely we have to do something, right? Right. The important thing is that we do the right thing. It is a learning process, we never get it totally right, but it’s worth the effort! Check it out!

‘Impossible’ is not a word that would likely come to your mind when asked to describe the Christian life. But...it is...impossible! It often occurs to us only after repeated failure and frustration - and even faking it. How freeing it can be just to admit it - “I can’t do it!” That is not the end of the process, but it is certainly the beginning! The “A” stands for “Admit I can’t do it.”

Where is God when life throws a curveball? How does God help us? God may or may not change our circumstances, but He has definitely provided us with the greatest of comforts who will never leave nor forsake us - The Holy Spirit, the Forever Friend.

What we are talking about here is unique in the world. We feel it when it is there, and when it is not. ({salm 133:1-3) It is also impossible without the Third Person. Unity among believers is the result oof an awareness and application of the work of the Holy Spirit. One thing for sure - it's worth it!

Born again? We may have heard the term too frequently or with too much religious baggage. But it is a radical demand of Jesus. “You must be born again.” Obviously, birth is not something we did for ourselves the first time. Neither can we do it for ourselves the second time. We need the Life Giver! The Third Person.

How far out of our reach is the mind of God? How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways! For who has known the mind of the Lord? Romans 11:33-34 Only the Third Person, the Spirit of truth, is the teller of God’s truth. And He has revealed it through the inspired Scripture.

Is He ‘The Forgotten God’? If the Holy Spirit is God, and He is more or less forgotten, something is deeply lacking in our lives and in the church. Jesus said the coming of the Holy Spirit would be to our “advantage.” John 16:7 We have much to look forward to, don’t we?

To understand the Privilege of Persecution, one must believe that God is in control and trust in the sustaining power of the Holy Spirit. This is possible when one believes God’s Word is truth. Persecution is not something to be desired but once in its midst, God’s Spirit will help you see its benefit for your Christian life.
