VOX: The Revelation of Jesus Christ (Part Two)

“Eschatology” is the study of last things– things that will bring about the ultimate purpose of God on earth– forever. The book of Revelation ties everything together. There is nothing more to say. As you contemplate some of the last things found in Revelation, ask God to raise you up and give you hope and courage for the next days in your life.

the Revelation of Jesus Christ- Part one

It look's like you don't have Adobe Flash Player installed. Get it now.

What a moment! What drama! It was revealed to John in the first century, but all who believe in Christ will witness it as
well. The Lamb that was slain will take up the title deed to the earth, the scroll with seven seals, and open it. This begins the final 7 year sequence of events that lead to the reclaiming of the earth by the  sovereign God, and the establishing of His eternal kingdom. All doubts of His  goodness and greatness will be forever removed.

Our Stories - Told By Jesus

It look's like you don't have Adobe Flash Player installed. Get it now.

The grand final book of the Bible is more than a prophetic panorama of God’s world program. In the second and third chapter, we have the stories of seven first century churches which are so relevant. Each of our stories can identify to one degree or another with these historical churches. You have heard it said, “Don’t take it so personally.” Well the only way to eternally benefit from the content of these letters is to take it personal, to open your heart to these seven real life stories that can  encourage and direct your own real life story.

Leaving the Past Behind

It look's like you don't have Adobe Flash Player installed. Get it now.

Leaving the past behind is easier than it sounds! Some memories contain scars that haunt us. They shackle us to our old life and inhibit our growth. Past achievements and praise can equally  obstruct God’s work that remains to be completed in us. Fortunately the Bible gives us insight into what (and how) to remember and what to forget.

Yes, we are justified by faith and have peace with God. And our earthly journey can be a rich life of coming to know Christ better, trusting Him more and being  useful in His work. But there has to be more– doesn’t there? We all feel it, it is not complete, something else has to change for the story to be complete. Indeed it does, and it will.

The Journey

It look's like you don't have Adobe Flash Player installed. Get it now.

The journey is both simple and complex, easy and hard, short and long. Just being real! There are no quick fixes or short cuts or even “how to’s”. The unique reality of the journey of the believer is that it consists most basically of a relationship with God, through Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit. The best way for that to happen is just keep walking and never stop.

When it comes to our credit score with God, we are either at 0 or 100. It will not be any better in 20 years than 2 seconds after believing. This is the great doctrine of the apostle Paul that people resisted in the 1st century and in the 21st century. What about you?

Its official, the holiday season has  begun. Thanksgiving is a great way to kick it off! The word thanksgiving, when applied to God’s gift of Christ, takes on an entirely different meaning and provides us with perspective we need as we enter the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. Growing deeply in our gratitude for Christ during the month of December, will give us a joy that will flourish in the midst of a variety of circumstances and situations that we face in preparation for the  celebration of Christmas. This will also be an authentic way to shine the light of Christ’s love and life to others.

Pursuing Growth. It is one of the seven values of our church. The question we all need to ask ourselves is, “Is it a value for me?” Why does it matter? What takes the time and effort to answer? Hopefully, the life and example of the apostle Paul is enough motivation– after all, I don’t think he has any regrets!

New life in Christ!  No one evidences this more than the Apostle Paul himself.  Transformed, his was a life salvaged from a path of blind ambition and religious rage to a life joyfully given for the benefit of others.

VOX: Shall We Overcome?

It look's like you don't have Adobe Flash Player installed. Get it now.

Oh, to be an "overcomer'!  As individiual believers, part of being an 'overcomer' means being open to stepping out of our comfort zones and beyond our human sensibilities to share Jesus with people different than ourselves.  For the Church, overcoming differences from within means keeping the main thing the main thing, and not majoring in the minors.  Clarifying the gospel message and unifying around that message will enable us as the church to better communicate the gospel to a world that needs this message more than any other.

332
VOX: Why is God So Silent

It look's like you don't have Adobe Flash Player installed. Get it now.

Let's be clear.  This understanding of the miraculous in God's economy does not mean that He can't or doesn't do the miraculous today.  However it is not with the same purpose or intensity as it was in the NT.  Comparatively speaking, we should not expect the miraculous of God as was displayed in gospels and the Acts.  Bottom line, ...we walk by faith, not by sight... 2 Corinthians 5:7

There are few things more memorable for a parent than the birth of a child, especially the first born. We remember like it was yesterday. Believe it or not, the church has a birthday. There was a time when there was no church, and “suddenly” there was. It happened in Acts 2:1-13. It was an amazing day, and all of us believers are affected today by what  happened that day!

Reversing the Irreversible

This just doesn’t happen. Never. The definition of death includes being irreversible. That is why we fear it so much. It’s why we try to make it nice and pretty. What are we to do with this thing that is both irreversible and inevitable? There is only One who even claims to be the answer. And how else do you explain Him, other than the fact that HE IS RISEN!

How can we ever get over it?  The passion of the Christ is the most heinous and painful story of history.  At the same time it is the greatest love story.  There is a strange beauty in it all; an attraction that is deep and transforming.  Take a good long look.

The Way to Live Life

It look's like you don't have Adobe Flash Player installed. Get it now.

There is no Audio This week only video.. The service was heavily reliant on video.  Jesus said, “I have come that they might have life, and have it more  abundantly” (John 10:10). You don’t have to be a Christian who settles for less  because you misunderstand and resist God’s way of bringing about the abundant life. Following Jesus can turn out far  differently for us as believers when we apply the spiritual life truths that Jesus reveals in John 15 and that Tom has sought to faithfully model and teach.

327
He Whom They Seek to Kill

It look's like you don't have Adobe Flash Player installed. Get it now.

It is shocking and surprising to many of us to discover just how “threatening” and “intense” the days of Jesus were while on the earth. He was targeted for destruction from early on - and everyone knew it. Maybe we just don’t know Jesus as well as we think we do. It makes me wonder, if He showed up today, and conducted Himself in a similar fashion, how would I feel about Him? How about you? Better slow down and check this one out.

326
He did what?!

It look's like you don't have Adobe Flash Player installed. Get it now.

He did WHAT? He did miracles! It should not be surprising that One who was a miracle would perform miracles, especially ones that revealed who He was and what His kingdom would be like. According to John the apostle, the historical record of His miracles is designed to arouse faith in the person of Christ and thus obtain  eternal life. He knew them to be authentic - he was an eyewitness. Nothing more is needed. The choice to believe or not is ours. Recall His Words to Thomas, “Because you have seen Me, have you believed? Blessed are those who did not see, and yet believed.” John 20:29

What is he really like

What is He Really Like? Have you ever had a negative opinion of what someone was like, but when you got to know them, you discovered your were wrong? How embarrassing! It can be hard to find out what a person is really like. God wants us to know what He is really like. And He has made it very clear. When we find out what Jesus is really like, we know what God is like (see John 1:18). Most of humanity has Him wrong. How about you?

The New Testament. It is over 2000 years old, but it is still new! Who can fathom the impact of these inspired pages over two millennia of history? God only knows. Imagine the world without the New Testament and the truth it reveals explains? We don’t want to go there. As we sit on the threshold of this Part 2 of the Bible, it is exciting to ponder and pray, for ourselves and others. ―How will God use the New Testament in our lives?‖

Finding Our Fit

It look's like you don't have Adobe Flash Player installed. Get it now.

Amazing! God is working out a plan. Our problem is that we are often unaware of how we fit. As we move into the New Testament, it is vital that we have the big picture of what God is doing in the world and our place in it. Daniel’s “70 weeks” is all about Israel and God keeping His promise to them. And He will. We are in between the 69th and 70th week! That’s where the New Testament fits in!

Ever wondered if God can use you for tasks that seem reserved for “full time” pastors or missionaries? In Acts 6:5,  Phillip takes center stage as one  commissioned by the elders. He was a Greek-speaking Jew who came to faith amongst thousands of others after Jesus’ resurrection. Though he started out as a waiter on tables, he became an  evangelist...a preacher of the gospel. Wow, what a change of roles for the  kingdom of God. God desires to do the same with us - to move us from where we are to join Him in His work on earth. For this to happen there are choices we must make. We are glad you have joined us today to  worship the Lord. Seated around you are  people just like you—people who need the Lord! Catalyst - Ezra

It look's like you don't have Adobe Flash Player installed. Get it now.

Whether it be marriage, family, business church or organization, there must be continual positive catalyst for them to flourish. Ezra was a catalyst for Israel at a critical time in their history. Without him, they would not have been restored to a place of health and blessing upon their return from captivity. Let none of us despise the role of eladership or shirnk back from even the small ways we can contribute positively to people and to our "enviroment"

VOX: From Rejection to Rejoicing

It look's like you don't have Adobe Flash Player installed. Get it now.

Jeremiah, we learned last week, was a lonely prophet rejected by his people. Remarkably, in the midst of such  prolonged and relentless hostility against him, he remained faithful. With a broken heart and a flood of tears, he witnessed the dismantling of the Jewish nation, yet clung steadfast to hope. Those who are oppressed are often those who are poor.  Many trapped in poverty feel rejected by men and neglected by God. But the story of poverty can become a story of redemption and rejoicing.

jeremiah - dealing with rejection

It look's like you don't have Adobe Flash Player installed. Get it now.

‘Ouch’ may be a word to describe the life of Jeremiah. 40 years of rejection. Yet, he stayed at it! Honoring God and His word, in spite of the suffering it brought to his life. Today, most of us would have tried to ‘rescue’ him. But there was no rescue - not in his earthly life. But just imagine the joy he has now! While we may be  rejected by men, our ultimate approval by God will last forever! Now that is worth waiting - and suffering for.

310
A Time to tear down

It look's like you don't have Adobe Flash Player installed. Get it now.

Solomon said it...there is a time to tear down. (Ecclesiastes 3:3) How hard it is to see our own idolatry. The people of Hezekiah’s day were simply doing what was culturally acceptable. They even thought they were still serving God at the same time they were frequenting the high places. In fact, they had made an idol of the symbol of their salvation. That should give us significant pause as to our own high places and what needs to be torn down in our lives.

307
Upside Down

It look's like you don't have Adobe Flash Player installed. Get it now.

Do you ever get upset when your  instructions are ignored? Imagine how God, who is perfect and holy, feels when his children disobey Him. He has every right to require us to live in a way that reflects His truths and His character; so He demands our obedience. Yet God is  brimming with love, grace, forgiveness and mercy. At some point even God says, “Enough is enough!” God’s patience  eventually ran out with the northern  kingdom of Israel. He sent the Assyrians to defeat, enslave, and disperse Israel. Even though God is long-suffering, He takes obedience seriously and so should we. Time and again he sent spokesmen (prophets) to call the people to return to Him only to see them refuse. All the Kings failed. Will we learn from their failures? Will we heed God’s call to faithfully respond in obedience?

Talk about drama! The Bible is full of it. So are the lives of many people and nations. No doubt, life, relationships and politics are complex and complicated. Division is at times necessary and right, at other times it can and should be avoided by doing the right thing. Wisdom is necessary to determine the proper perspective and action. May our heart be open to receive God's wisdom!

Doing Life a better way

It look's like you don't have Adobe Flash Player installed. Get it now.

No one can do life the easy way. But Saul and David offer us a contrast between doing it the hard way and the better way. One lesson we learn is that God is all about the heart. Our inner man is who we really are. David was a man after God’s own heart (1 Samuel 13:14). His son Solomon wrote, “watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flows the springs of life.” (Proverbs 4:23) As we allow God room to apply this message to our lives, let’s honestly examine our hearts.

Doing Life the Hard Way

Who among us cannot relate to Saul in one way or another? Whether in big things or little things, we learn that doing things our way rather than God’s usually does not in the end, work out well. Saul’s is a story of tragedy. “Behold, I have played the fool and have committed a serious error.” (1 Samuel 26:21) Wouldn’t it be great if we could learn enough from the mistakes of others so that we could avoid self-induced  tragedies? And all God’s people said, “Amen!”

In the life of the Christian, it is nothing less than sin that God takes very personally. As well He should. (see Hebrews 3:7-19) There is another way– the way of faith (Hebrews 4:1-11) For those watching us, our positive, trusting, enduring attitude stands out like nothing else.

The Law- Exodus/Leviticus

Well, Moses laid down the Law, didn’t he? The Law can teach us so much about God and what He is like. Of Christ and our need of Him. Yet so many misunderstand and misuse the Law. The results have been devastating. Maybe you are one of those. Be thoughtful as you process this topic, be open to what the Scriptures teach, and you just might find a freedom that you have never known before.

The Bondage Breaker

The Bondage Breaking God has come to set the captives free! In the Exodus account we examined God's deliverance of israel out of bondage to Pharaoh in Egyp. That picture of Israel's deliverance through faith in the Passover Lamb pointed to an even greater redemtion through faith in the Lamb of God, Jesus. Oh, the depth of the riches of both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!

The Journey of Faith

Are you kidding me? Whoever said the Christian life is easy must either be at the very beginning of the journey, or in total denial. Because it is a journey of faith, the life is simple, but never easy! Just ask Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, or Joseph! Isn’t it encouraging and inspiring to have such examples of the journey!

One thing you can count on

God keeps His promises. He is the One thing you can count on! Israel is proof of God’s faithfulness to the world. He has and will fulfill every promise He made to the Jewish people. While these promises are not made to us directly, we participate in them through Jesus Christ. Being in Him assures us of all the benefits of the gospel. We can trust God to do what He said He will do!

What a mess we are in! But it is not a mess without hope, nor without end.

Say What?

All the way into the New Testament, the apostle Paul wrote, Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against  rulers, against the powers against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in heavenly places (Ephesians 6:12). Seemingly out of nowhere, our first parents found this out big time. Have we yet discovered that this place called earth, our home, is not neutral ground?

The way we were

It is haunting, isn’t it? We do remember - the way we were. God’s desire and design for us as human beings made in His image is very special and significant - it is how we are made. How easy for us to take extreme views of ourselves and  others - worthless, nothing or awesome, invincible. Only the Bible can give us the accurate and healthy perspective. Don’t underestimate this part of our journey through the Bible.

It perhaps has been a while since you have heard a message from your Creator. I hope you were listening! After all, who is more important than the One who created everything– including you? When you think about the goal of this VOX series— trusting God more—, it begins here. The “take aways” from Genesis 1 are so vital to not only our lives, but that of the whole planet. The confusion and chaos over origins spills over into every aspect of human existence. Take time to get your take aways from this Message From Your Creator!

The Big Picture

This is as big as a picture can get! From eternity past to eternity future - God’s plan for the ages, and for us. It is an amazing, awe-inspiring, humility-enhancing, faith-building, and soul-satisfying picture. For us, it is always expanding and growing, since we are finite, and He is infinite. Be patient, hopeful, and prayerful as you take this journey!

The Journey Begins

The Bible contains a unique and inherent power to change our lives because it is “living and active”, as Hebrews 4:12 tells us:
"For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart."

We have all been asked the question, “Are you having a good day?” What does it take to make a good day? We often think it takes something extraordinary, a promotion, a work day free of hassles or problems, or a child’s “A” on a test or win on the field. The truth is an ordinary day, even when bad things happen, can become good by engaging in a few simple spiritual practices that will enable us to make the most of the minutes and hours of each day. Every day is an opportunity for something of eternity to touch  something of earth and make it good. The great privilege of the believer in Jesus Christ is to use the routine moments of our ordinary days to experience the reality of Christ’s presence in and through our lives.

Easter

It is almost a contradiction to speak of ‘looking back’ on Easter. The resurrection of Christ is all about the future, regardless of our past. As painful and as hurtful as life can be, the reality of what Jesus has Borne for us, gives us strength for the moment, and assured hope for tomorrow.
