Men stumble over the truth from time to time, but most pick themselves up and hurry of as if nothing happened.     -Sir Winston Churchill

Till Armageddon, No Shalom, no Shalom. Then the father hen will call his chickens home. The wise men will bow down before the throne. And at his feet they’ll cast their golden crown. When the man comes around.   -Johnny Cash, The Man Comes Around

Humility is so shy. If you begin talking about it, it leaves. -Tim Keller

Spiritual vs. Material

It look's like you don't have Adobe Flash Player installed. Get it now.

It’s true. Christmas does create conflict, especially between the material and the spiritual. Ouch! We all feel it and struggle dealing with it. How good of God to give us stories like that of the shepherds to help us never forget what Christmas, and all of life, is all about. Now the challenge is to do it!

Belief vs. Skepticism

It look's like you don't have Adobe Flash Player installed. Get it now.

Christmas is surrounded by  fantasy...Santa Claus, Norman Rockwell paintings, extreme and false expectations. No wonder people have doubts about the “real”] Christmas too! As Zechariah reveals, doubts happen to the best of believers. It is up to us how we deal with them. Ask God to help you with your doubts as you go through this holiday season.

Joy vs. Disillusionment

Where's the joy? Sometimes it seems like the stress of Christmas pushs happiness and good will right out of our lives. And the expectations that we should feel joyful only seems to complicate things. We wonder, "What's wrong with us?"  This conflict isn't anything new. And next week we'll look to see how God addresses the struggle for Mary and Joseph... and ask the question, "Can we really get in on the joy?"

Bended Knees

It look's like you don't have Adobe Flash Player installed. Get it now.

Isn’t the Bible amazing? It’s just 7 words. But what is communicated through them is at the heart of a life of gratitude, contentment, and generosity. How powerful it would be if this short request became our daily heart cry to God? Give us this day our daily bread.

275
Big Shoulders

It look's like you don't have Adobe Flash Player installed. Get it now.

Heavy? In some ways yes! Delightful– yes as well. Pleasing the One who is our  creator, redeemer, and provider is both. Perhaps the best word would be “privilege!” It is a privilege to serve God! But it does take big shoulders to be a faithful steward of God’s resources. But how fulfilling will it be to hear those words one day, “well done, good and faithful servant?”

274
Clear Eyes

It look's like you don't have Adobe Flash Player installed. Get it now.

It is the difference between light and darkness, day and night. Most of us underestimate the influence money hason our lives- especially if your eye is not clear. These verses make it clear that buildingreaching is an opportunity for us to “look” at ourselves and the gifts we have been entrusted with in a whole new “light.” During these few weeks of  concentration on our money, why not keep your eyes open to what God may want to say to you?

Unanswered Questions

It look's like you don't have Adobe Flash Player installed. Get it now.

The book does not end-it just stops. Or does it? It has been 2,760 years since the book of Jonah was written, but it still speaks! It never stops-because God never stops. He is RELENTLESS! He keeps asking questions. The question is, what is our answer?

249
Getting on the same page

It look's like you don't have Adobe Flash Player installed. Get it now.

The Apostle Paul reveals that a day will come when every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord (Philippians 2:10-11). Until that day we must live amongst chaos and pain. As Christ-followers, our challenge and joy is to be transformed into His likeness and conformed to His will-getting on the same page.

240
Paying Back, Bringing Back, Coming Back

It look's like you don't have Adobe Flash Player installed. Get it now.

It’s payback time! Those are scary words coming from the right person, aren’t they? Most people think of God in those terms. No wonder we stay away for so long! Yet Jonah tells a story of a God who is always seeking to bring us back- for all the right reasons. The question for each of us, are we coming back?

248
A suprising sacrafice

It look's like you don't have Adobe Flash Player installed. Get it now.

Most of us are not Forest Gump when it comes to running. We wear out! Isn’t it interesting how many times we have to learn that running from God’s presence is  ALWAYS stupid? I know, sometimes it feels so “right” or even “necessary”. Jonah and the dramatic opening of his story illustrates just how far God will go to bring us back to Him! Are you running? Maybe it is time God caught up with you-just because He loves you!

247
The Story Behind the Story

It look's like you don't have Adobe Flash Player installed. Get it now.

In this most unusual book we see God’s unwavering pursuit of His AWOL prophet. The story is highly missional - crossing boundaries, cultures and prejudices in order to bring a message from God that will lead to salvation. Yet the power is found in the Lord’s relentless pursuit of our hearts, that we might experience His grace.

Who am I and what am I doing here? Our answers to these two questions and the decisions we make as a result, in the end, is all that really matters in life. “How will I meet my spiritual need?” and “What will be the central purpose of my life?” are the questions that need to be pressed in each of our lives. Let the thing be pressed.

Two Sticky Wickets of Decision Making

It look's like you don't have Adobe Flash Player installed. Get it now.

Feelings and circumstances are two realities we are most aware of in our lives on a constant basis. It is understandable that they have such a great influence over our decision making. Wisdom and God’s word however must always be the  arbitrator as we seek to make decisions that reflect the image of God to the world and honor Him the most.

A Practical Theology of Decision Making

It look's like you don't have Adobe Flash Player installed. Get it now.

You may have never thought of it like this before, but one of the most important things you need is a solid practical theology of decision making. If the decisions we make, make us, then how we go about making them becomes determinative in our lives. Of course, God is gracious and works in our lives regardless of our mistakes, but how much better to get on the same page with what He expects of us regarding decision making! Two Sticky Wickets of Decision Making

You’re ON! Are we ever! More so than most of us realize. When it comes to living our lives, as image bearers of God, we are responsible decision makers. That means the better persons we become, the better decisions we will make. Lets give ourselves to it.

Ready or not - they just keep coming! Decisions, decisions, decisions. The  decisions you make about your involvement in the study and application of this series could and should pay  dividends in your decision making for the rest of your life! Let’s start right now.  Who is it that makes our decisions? Obviously, we do. So if you want to make better decisions, we must check out our own preparedness and evaluate if we “have what it takes” to make good decisions. In this study we will identify characteristics that are necessary to develop if we are to live up to be the kind of decision makers God made us to be.

Providence

It just doesn’t get better than the Providence of God. Think about it...He knows our tomorrows...He forgives and forgets our yesterdays...All the while weaving together the tapestry of our lives right now. He created our hearts to beat and our lungs to breathe even when he is the furthest thing from our minds.

252
Humility

It look's like you don't have Adobe Flash Player installed. Get it now.

Eugene Peterson calls this a maintenance Psalm. He means that it needs to be read and applied with regularity lest we drift into ugly arrogance, creating tension, stress and destructive relationships. In other words, our pride and our need for humility and trust in God is ignored at great personal price. How do we “do humility? I have not figured that one out yet, but I think the first step has something to do with being willing to admit our pride. Let’s at least ask God to help us do that!

253
Security

It look's like you don't have Adobe Flash Player installed. Get it now.

Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.

254
Worship

It look's like you don't have Adobe Flash Player installed. Get it now.

God made us in His image to worship Him. Nothing makes God more supreme and more central than when a people are utterly persuaded that nothing - not money or prestige or leisure or family or job or health or sports or toys or friends - is going to bring satisfaction to their aching hearts besides God. May our lives be an act of worship reflecting His supremacy and centrality.

255
Hope

It look's like you don't have Adobe Flash Player installed. Get it now.

This one is definitely essential. Traveling without hope is devastating. The unique-ness of one who knows and trusts God is not the lack of being in the depths. The one who knows God is there, but knows that God is as well - and that He cares more than we know. The proof is in the cross. As one writer puts it, “the depths have a bottom: the heights are bound-less”.

Is there anything more challenging than perseverance? Check out the quote below by Kettering! We all have feelings of wanting to give up. Whether it is August football practice, a long illness, a deep hurt, a tough marital situation, or being disillusioned with the Christian life, staying on track is what makes life worth living in the end. Let Psalm 129 be one of your Traveling Companions this summer. Who knows the difference it will make come September!

Help

Help - who needs it? All of us. Help - who gives it? God. Yet we struggles with both ourselves and God when it comes to the threatening nature of life. Re-membering

Evangelistically Bold

It look's like you don't have Adobe Flash Player installed. Get it now.

Do you get the picture? V-C-R. Being able to see what the Scripture means by ‘evangelistically bold’ is the first step to becoming such. As we faithfully continue the journey we will experience the most rewarding experience in the Christian life, being a part of seeing another person come to Christ by faith in Him alone! all.

260
Socially Responsible

It look's like you don't have Adobe Flash Player installed. Get it now.

This week we explored our fifth dynamic, Socially Responsible. As we learned, growth in social responsibility is an  essential and integral part of Christian growth. Throughout the Bible, we see a compelling call to reach out and minister to the needy of our world. As we respond to this call, God not only answers it by growing us in social responsibility, but surprising us with the greater need we have for his heart toward others to grow in us.

261
Personally Generous

It look's like you don't have Adobe Flash Player installed. Get it now.

Personally Generous. Nice sounding "dynamic" but how much is it at the core of living out the presence of Christ in us? God is a generous God. God so loved the world that he gave... John 3:16 Giving ourselves away is the most God-like thing we can do! May His Grace motivate us to do just that.

262
Relationally Healthy

It look's like you don't have Adobe Flash Player installed. Get it now.

Nothing seems more complex thank human relationships. Relationships among Christians are to be uniquely different says Jesus (John 13:34-35, 17:2-3). We all know that these ideals are often not reached. We are all a "work in progress" when it comes to healthy relationships. It is progress that we must always seek, not perfection. This study and your response to it, could be a major step in the right direction. You won't regret it

263
Biblically Grounded

It look's like you don't have Adobe Flash Player installed. Get it now.

Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God (Mathew 4:4). How strong and profound is the provision of God's word in the Scripture! How easy is it for us to forget and to even conscioously ignore the girf of the Bible in our every day lives. As we Re-member, Biblically Grounded, lets ask God to create in us a hunger for His word, and to make the neccessary changes in our lives so that we are not living by bread alone.

271
Spiritually Vital

It look's like you don't have Adobe Flash Player installed. Get it now.

There is an order to the Six Dynamics of Balanced Christian Growth. Spiritually Vital is first for a reason. Everything flows from the heart of the believer that is spiritually vital. Of course, the other dynamics contribute to being spiritual vital, but there is no substitute for abiding in Christ! Consider carefully the vitality of your faith and humbly seek God in the midst of your curent reality.

272
Re-membering: An Introduction

It look's like you don't have Adobe Flash Player installed. Get it now.

In marriage there are more important things to remember - your anniversary, your spouse's age and birthday, and a few others. Remembering this things is not so much about being well-informed but part of demonstrating our commitment to a meaningful and growing relationship with our spouse. There are also some very important things to Re-member when it comes to being the church. The church is composed of believers in Jesus Christ who are called to the life transforming proccess of growing toward maturity in Christ and being His agent of transformation to a lost and broken world. We need to remember that Christ is the source of the transformation and we experience Christ's transforming presence when we engage and re-member the responsibilities Paul gives each of us as part of the church.

273
